We do have to consider when Yamaha are going to bring out their next versions. I suspect the PSR E473 is due for replacement within 12 months. By mid 2025, maybe even just in to the new year. The PSR E373 in 2024 was upgraded to the PSR E383 and we know that the PSR E373 was brought out 1 year before the PSR E473. So it is quite likely then both the 61 key PSR E473 and the 76 key PSR EW425 will soon be upgraded. There was not a great deal of difference in performance between the 373 and the 383 that I could see in the specs, the price however has changed more to the advantage of Yamaha and their numerous dealers who I suspect prefer newer models so that they can charge near to RRP as they can get away with. What folks buy and also 'when' they buy it is important, though from what I see both the 373 and the 473 are already capable instruments. I prefer the 473 as the various accompaniment instruments, bass, drums, chord etc can be used individually, or with any amount of each other. Out of all the 200 odd backing rhythm styles, there has to be many many bass pattens, drum pattens etc that can be picked and used instead of having a $100+ drum machine and a $100+ bass machine desktop model if on a tight budget. These 'home keyboards' do have their place, they are of use to even these hard core SYNTH type users. Giving these days a broad pallet of decent enough sounding established musical instruments. Piano, guitar, sax etc. Realistic sounding. And as said if like the PSR E473 just the bass accompaniment, drums etc can be utilised this gives it a versatility. ----------------------------------------------------- PS, What Yamaha want to do with their upcoming PSR E483 and for sure their likely named PSR E435 is to EXAND upon their two 'live' modifying knobs they have on the PSR E473 and the PSR EW425. Yamaha have 14 what they call 'real time' effects that can be modified, though this currently can only be modified in real time by two knobs and a button to shift up and down what the two knobs can modify. To some folk this is restrictive, not real time & instant enough and importantly not enough knobs to twiddle about with. The synth types do like loads of knobs & sliders to fiddle about with!. I suggest that Yamaha, especially on the 76 key new version, (because they have the space on the keyboard) REORGANISE the keyboard on the left of centre side to be able to accept a SEPERATE CONSOLE made up of 14 knobs. This optional extra console of knobs can then be slotted in on the keyboard, superseding the two current effects modifying knobs to give 14 real time modifying knobs. Reverb, chorus, DSP's etc. Giving the PSR E483 and for sure the 76 key PSR EW435 more of a 'synth' like ability. Yamaha would be better off having an advertising campaign to get the existing synth type crowd IN to the Yamaha showrooms. Getting them in there should be their aim. Giving them an open invitation with a: 'Synth heads, come see what a 76 key Yamaha PSR EW435 can do for you' type soundbite. A heck of a lot of synth users who would hardly ever consider getting a home keyboard of any manufacturer, if the showroom dealer took the time to demonstrate its ability with this 14 knob optional console in place, and the on/off bass, drum, chord etc accompaniment function, I bet many would be convinced, if not tempted to buy one. Especially if on the 76 key version 5 pin din midi in/out & through was added. (not much extra cost involved). Keeping these established Yamaha models as traditional type home keyboards as always, but extending its versatility by giving it more of a synth type ability. There is PLENTY of space on the 76 key version to do this, take a look, a bit of reorganising of buttons and that slot in console I mention can be added and the 5 pin din midi as well. Sold both with and without the modifying console as standard, though of cause without it there is always the possibility to upgrade later on so no problems there. The music industry commentators & journo outfits would see it as a bit of a game changer for Yamaha. Keeping the sales from the home keyboard users, which is many many in number, Yamaha's bread & butter, and also extending the sales in to that other area, the synth based users. Those in to Behringer, Roland, Korg etc synth keyboard and desktop synth gear. NOT to do so as I advise would by me be clearly seen as a limitation in the ability of the Yamaha execs. They are already going that way with the two knob live modifying function anyway, an optional console as I describe would turn these Yamaha keyboards into a more versatile and credible instrument. It'd gain a load of street cred overnight.

hey jeremy, such great review of the psr e383! but in my country this thing costs around $300, and i did some research and found that these products are in the same price range: psr e383 ($300), casio ctx800 ($270), roland ex30 ($330), casio ctx3000 ($320) and casio cts1 ($250). which one should i buy for this price range? thanks in advance!

Hi, I’m a lounge classic piano player and I’ve been doing my own arrangements in GM format… I’ve been using for several years my Vintage Korg IS40 that sounds pretty good by the way, I play along with the midi files… and it’s really good…. I’m in the market for the best replacement for the IS40, I just bought the i3 but I’m really disappointed with the sounds quality… comparing with the old one, it’s pretty awful, very near of toy quality… So my quest is still on.. can your advise me some good keyboard options… Best regards

OBS: the number of limitations is nly if you need for very professional sound production otherwise this is also an secondary key for professional performance

This was my starter piano almost 10 years ago now, once I went to a dgx series 3 years ago it became a hand me down for my younger brothers to play on and it still works pretty well to this day 🙂

I’ve had mine for going on 3 years now and it has held up fantastically! I’ve spent a looot of time even just playing with modifying and saving new voices

Interesting how Jeremy has become the ultimate piano keyboard review artist for the world! I use a Yamaha 463 and I'm just learning Beethoven sonatina allegretto from Suzuki book 2 and I love it..... I always buy keyboards for my students so these videos are helpful and it's always fun to try new ones. Recently tried Yamaha CP 88, seemed good but the headphones I put on were terrible so that was disappointing, and it was too noisy at the music store.,....

I just bought this keyboard and I’m extremely disappointed with the quality of the sounds… doesn’t even have a decent double bass our a decent snare our drum kit… the only decent is the brush kit but the all the rest sound like a toy… crappie sounds… my vintage Korg IS40 sounds 1000 times better with better rhythm patterns… it’s not worth a dime… Unstated of improving along with the rest of the world on this keyboard it’s the opposite…

The price you paid seems a bit steep! Thats works out at about £470. In Dec 23 I bought the p145 from Amazon UK for £400 with a £50 cash back from Yamaha after 30 days. For £350 this is an excellent keyboard.
